What happened next
Business at America Live improved at first after the rescue, with sales up 25% at the six-week check-in. The improvement did not last, and the decline began before the episode aired on September 16, 2012. America Live closed in July 2012 amid disputes over the bar's ownership. In a Facebook post that was removed shortly afterwards, the owners thanked friends, supporters and loyal patrons and said two members of the community had schemed to take the bar from them and that they had lost their life savings. The site was later occupied by Buzzard Bay Pub, which closed in 2018, and then by Mango's Tropical Oasis, which was destroyed by fire in November 2020.
