The rescue
Jon Taffer kept the name Gipsy for the relaunch.
Gipsy closed in January 2014 after owner Paul San Filipo rejected the SBLV Ultra Lounge rebrand. The building was bulldozed in 2020, and San Filipo died in April 2022.
What happened next
Owner Paul San Filipo rejected the rescue's changes. He shut the bar shortly after the renaming to SBLV Ultra Lounge and moved his staff to another of his bars, and Gipsy closed in January 2014. About a year after the visit, San Filipo planned to gut the space and reopen it as something new, but the remodel stalled over permitting and contractor problems, and the bar never reopened. The building was bulldozed in 2020. San Filipo then planned a rebuild he estimated at about $5 million, but he died in April 2022. By December 2022, a new building was under construction on the site, with signs naming Gypsy, LLC as the applicant for tavern and gaming use.
